Issues & Goals
Rob Curnock’s values and positions on issues are shaped by three key principles: Less Government, Lower Taxes, and More Personal Freedom. To learn more about how Rob applies these principles to key issues affecting our country, read on.
National Security & Defense
Rob believes a strong national defense is crucial to maintaining our freedom. He is committed to national security, starting with our own borders and including a strong military presence as a deterrent to tyranny in the world. A strong foreign policy, reliant on our own national interests as well as those of our allies, is a key element as well.
- Funding and equipping our military to achieve total victory, a top priority
- Supporting efforts to fight the war on terror, and opposing efforts to treat it as a law enforcement issue
- Fighting to enforce existing immigration laws, increasing manpower, and supporting innovative technology-driven methods to keep our nation’s borders secure
- Encouraging strict reliance on our own laws and Constitution, and fighting efforts to impose international laws or courts as sovereign in the United States
Taxes, Jobs & The Economy
Few issues affect more people directly than the economy. Rob’s experience as a small business owner guides his understanding of how to enable the private sector to create jobs by removing onerous government regulations and taxes. Rob believes the tax code is out of control, and should be overhauled so that more Americans help shoulder the load of funding truly needed government programs. Runaway deficit spending is not the way to restore growth to our economy.
- Limiting government spending to achieve a balanced budget and pay down our national debt
- Through regular sunset reviews, eliminating government programs that are ineffective, outdated, or beyond the proper role of limited government
- Fighting to end the culture of corporate bailouts and out-of-control earmarks rampant in Congress
- Working to reduce taxes across the board, and exploring more transparent and fair options (such as replacing the Income Tax with the sales-based Fair Tax) to ensure that more Americans have a stake in the activities of our government
- Fighting excessive government involvement in private industry and unchecked bureaucratic regulations that stifle innovation and kill business creativity, two elements that are keys to real job growth
Constitutional Rights
Rob is a strong believer in strict constitutional interpretation and adherence to the goals and objectives of our Founding Fathers. Rob will fight to protect our most cherished rights, while opposing efforts to create new rights that have no constitutional foundation.
- Protecting the right of each citizen to “keep and bear arms” as provided in the Second Amendment
- Fighting for the sanctity of life beginning at conception and traditional marriage as pillars upon which our civil society is founded
- Protecting our right to vote and our right to have our vote count by supporting common sense measures to identify voters as eligible citizens
- Opposing unfunded mandates on states and working to return power to the states at every opportunity
- Holding White House agencies and departments accountable at the budgetary level, supporting legislation to mandate regular reporting to Congress of their activities, and requiring Congressional approval to create any “Czar” positions
Commitment to Society
Rob believes our country is great because we have a strong commitment to our society and to our citizens. This commitment includes improving care for veterans, maintaining a strong health care system, and ensuring quality education for our children. Too often, government is seen as the caretaker to a nation that sits back in expectation that someone else will provide. In almost every case, Rob believes Americans are better off when the government steps back and lets private industry, non-profit groups and individuals take the lead.
- Honoring commitments to military veterans, seniors, and the disabled by ensuring that entitlement programs are self-funded and providing options for privatization where prudent
- Reducing waste and fraud in health care and keeping costs low and access affordable through tort reform, freeing doctors to care for patients and not fight lawyers
- Improving education by setting standards and spending at state and local levels, freeing local school districts to get back to the basics of teaching and learning without massive federal bureaucracy and unfunded mandates
- Supporting churches and other non-profit groups that are directly involved with helping those in need in our communities, rather than increasing government spending to duplicate those services
Energy Independence & the Environment
Rob believes we must be good stewards of our natural resources, including our water systems, lands and wildlife. This is an important priority, but not one that should overshadow our responsibilities to the people of the United States and Central Texas. We must balance our need for energy independence to drive our economy, both today and in the long-term future, with a desire to leave our children a nice place to live and grow.
- Expanding domestic drilling for oil and natural gas to help us achieve shorter-term energy independence
- Championing the discovery of new sources of energy and technologies to make better use of existing resources, such as clean coal and nuclear power, to help achieve longer-term energy independence
- Carefully deferring to proven science before taking radical steps as in the Cap and Trade bill, which was not supported by the best and brightest scientific research
- Working to ensure clean water in our communities without imposing onerous regulations or interfering in matters properly regulated by states and local governments
