Curnock Campaign Releases Letter from Grandview Councilman on Earmark Rejection
Feb 23rd, 2010 | By ecampaign | Category: NewsRob Curnock, Republican candidate for Congress in District 17, today released a statement and letter from Grandview Councilman Chuck McGowen concerning the city’s rejection of an unnecessary Congressional earmark.
“I feel as if America has become afraid of taking a stand,” McGowen said. “The morning after our decision, I felt as if I had served in the way our founders expected. If I understand the math behind this correctly, America can’t afford the $500,000 earmark.”
“As for myself and the vote that I cast that night, I truly believe that the Grandview City Council did what was right for the Citizens of Grandview and for American taxpayers,” McGowen wrote in his letter. “I also must say that my vote was strongly influenced by the example of principle and conservatism displayed by Rob Curnock.”
At their Feb. 4, 2010 meeting, the Grandview City Council unanimously passed the resolution rejecting earmarked funds for a water storage facility that was not a need in the community. The following week McGowen contacted Curnock to let him know about the city council’s action.
“The City of Grandview is fortunate to have committed, conservative leaders like Chuck McGowen and Bill Pannell,” Curnock said. “As trusted servants of their city, these men followed their convictions and voted in the best interests of their community and their nation.”
“I am proud to call them supporters, and humbled that my own strong convictions on the issue of earmarks played a role in their decision-making process,” Curnock said.

Curnock broke ground in 2008 as the Republican candidate for Congress in District 17, running within a few percentage points of a long-time incumbent. The District 17 seat is now a top priority for the party in 2010, and the Curnock campaign is leading the way, with a grassroots campaign built on volunteers and a common-sense conservative message that resonates with Central Texans.
