Rob Curnock, Republican candidate for Congress in District 17, today issued a call for Rep. Chet Edwards to publicly oppose H.R. 3962, the Democratic Health Care bill currently under consideration in the U.S. House of Representatives.

“This summer, the citizens of Central Texas spoke in Town Hall meetings we hosted, and meetings Rep. Edwards hosted, and their message was clear: they do not want the federal government to interfere with their health care,” Curnock said. “I stand with them in opposition to this bill, and I urge our elected representatives to stand with us too.”

What started as an 1,100-page bill this summer has now grown to almost 2,000 pages. H.R. 3962 proposes creation of more than 110 federal bureaucracies in its effort to nationalize our health care and health insurance systems.

“Rep. Edwards made big news by announcing he would read this bill before voting on it,” Curnock said. “While I agree it’s time to stop voting for unread bills, it’s a sad day when the mere act of reading a bill is major news from an elected representative.”

“These issues have been publicly debated and discussed for months now, and the end result is clearly something that the people of District 17 oppose,” Curnock said. “Where is our Congressman on this issue? It doesn’t take much reading to find problems in the bill, and to know that H.R. 3962 is not in the best interests of Central Texans.”

“The time to stand on the sidelines and test the political winds is at an end,” Curnock said. “Now it is time to take a position and advocate for it, not sit back and count votes to see if there’s a way to slip in under the radar. The people of Central Texas deserve more than that.”

In October Curnock issued a report compiled form feedback received at several town hall events held in the district. The report, prepared by volunteers working in the Curnock campaign, outlines strong opposition to the policies proposed in several Democrat health care proposals currently before Congress.
