Rob Curnock, Republican candidate for Congress in District 17, will speak at the monthly McLennan County Republican Women meeting at 11:30 am Tuesday, June 23, at La Fiesta Restaurant on Franklin Avenue in Waco.

“I am honored to join this group of dedicated volunteers for a discussion of important issues facing our district and our country,” Curnock said. “We share a common commitment to supporting conservative values and limiting the intrusion of government on our lives and liberty.”

Curnock, the 2008 Republican candidate for Congress in District 17, came within a few percentage points of upsetting a longtime liberal Democrat congressman, who outspent the Republican by almost $2 million in the race. Curnock’s 2010 campaign is already well underway, buoyed by wide support from grassroots volunteers across the District.

“For too long, the people of this District have had a congressman who consistently votes the Democrat Party line, on issues ranging from taxes and spending to refusing to support our troops in harm’s way,” Curnock said. “We deserve a congressman who is responsive to the will of the people of Central Texas. That responsibility goes beyond funneling taxpayer money from Washington to pet projects here; it’s an obligation to represent our values and stand up to the likes of Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi.”

Joining Curnock at the event is Eric Opiela, executive director of the Republican Party of Texas. More information about the McLennan County Republican Women is available from their web site, http://www.mclennancountyrepublicanwomen.com/.
